ICE CARE project

The main goal of the ICE CARE project is to create awareness about the effects and consequences of climate change, helping to mitigate the problem at the same time!
The ICE CARE project started in early 2008, when a few friends realized the Kilimanjaro glaciers would soon be gone due, in part, to global warming. Recent studies highlight the fact that the ‘eternal snows’ of Mount Kilimanjaro might be completely vanished by 2015.
They immediately felt the need to broadcast this message to the world, since (despite all the fuzz about climate change) they still felt most people were misreading the problem completely.
‘I kept hearing alarming forecasts of Manhattan being submerse by 2100 but it seemed a too distant future for me to worry about. I had no clue global warming was already happening in some parts of the world! That’s what moved me to leave my comfort zone and start this endeavor’ – said José Abecasis Soares – founder of the ICE CARE Association.
After some research on the internet, it was possible to understand the further and more complex consequence of glaciers meltdown – the effects on the lives of people.
Currently, the ICE CARE Association is aiming for 2 major goals:
1.    To climb 5 glaciers in the world (highlighted by UNESCO as being severely affected by climate change) and bringing this testimony to the world;
2. To help the local population mitigate the consequences of long-term environmental disaster.
